Just when we thought the year had already come to a close for the Time Is Now crew, we saw this fabulous new box of treats land in the store, seeing Yosh return once again for what we believe to now be a final showdown. Featuring five sizzlers, this new EP kicks off with the spacious drum arrangements and bulging sub pulses of 'How We Roll', taking nostalgic samples and unique percussion to create something very colourful indeed.
Next, '2 Times' unleashes a shuffling array of scattered rhythmic designs atop sticky subs, before the swirling pads and choppy breaks of 'It Goes' send us down a different avenue altogether. From here, the syncopated rhythmic switches and continuously evolving bass drives of 'Shape The Future' give us a more stripped back approach to the UKG sound, slowly introducing old school LFO sweeps into the mix as it moves forward.
We then finally take in the spacious atmospherics of 'Pigments', which is supported by a dazzling display of percussive precision below, rounding off this EP perfectly! Read more. As the Breaks 'N' Pieces team look to lock off the year in style, they invite Peaky Beats back inside for a sumptuous three track sign out. We begin our dive into this one with the scattered drum rhythms and broken-beat infused UKG switch ups of 'Put Em Up', a bubbling introductory track which sets the pace for the EP nicely.
From here, we strive into a slightly more wonky zone as 'Feline Good' deploys punchy drum smashes and scattered rhythmic displays to deliver a saucy second helping, before the super-syncopated drum designs and clicky percussive processing of 'Ishval' gives the EP a solid finale. As one final treat from Soul Mass Transit System and Time Is Now, the entity duo has joined forces once again to deliver three spectacular new rollers to close out the year in style with, once again pushing them to the top of the tree.
We begin with 'Freak-ee', a bubbling garage roller, combining distant saxophone melodies and atmospheric vocal riffs to unleash a smooth sizzler for the dance. Second, 'All I Need' ups the pace with a pack of punchy drum sounds and glitchy vocal slicing atop a bulbous bassline, before moving into the nostalgic sub-drives and super-skippy rhythmic displays of 'The Message', which puts the perfect final topping on one final wicked selection from Soul Mass Transit System, drawing a close to an epic year of releases.
The beautiful thing about the Four40 discography is that it seems to just keep on getting better, this time included as they unveil this sizzling seven tracker from Deadly Habitz. We kick off with the dancefloor-focussed vocal sampling and skippy rhythmic textures of 'Gyaldem Skank', leading into the throwback reese bass drives, nostalgic chords and eerie strings of 'Rockport Flex'.
We are already taking in a very depthy display of garage history at this point, with the breaks-infused drum skips of 'So Mysterious' and moogy synth pulses of 'The Lover Dealer' expanding that even further.
From here we then move into the more stripped back drum arrangements and classic Rodigan vocal sampling of 'Watch The Ride', next to the high tempo drum crunches and warbling bass tones of 'Who U Are'. Finally, the pitched up vocal lines and throwback organ chord melodies of 'U Don't Know' give us a killer outro to another fantastic addition to Four40's catalogue. December is of course the time of year where every label starts to unleash their final compilation drop of the year, with the Garage Shared crew being actively hailed as one of the country's most valuable UKG platforms.
Awesome stuff as per! Dansu Discs is a record label based in Manchester bringing you electronic music from around the world.
MKII lands next on the label for an nifty six-tracker fuelled by breakbeats that hark back to the glory days of '90s warehouse raves. Shut up and dance to the proto jungle of "Flashback" then step back in time to the second summer of love on the rave euphoria of "Can U Feel It" before the retro hardcore stormer "Get Funky" hammers the message home, followed by a strobed-out and banging techno remix from Bailey Ibbs.
